Event Options

All events finish at Fraser Reserve, Omaha Beach:

  • Beach Hopper – 7.5 km Run / Walk (starts at Jones Bay)
  • Bay Scrambler – 11.5 km Run / Walk (starts at Jones Bay)
  • Mini Monty – 15.5 km Run / Walk (starts at Jones Bay)
  • Mid Monty – 25 km Run (starts at Campbells Beach)
  • Full Monty – 32 km & Teams Relay Run (starts at Campbells Beach)

 

Parking

There is ample of parking available in the main car park outside the Omaha Surf Club, or on the surrounding roads if the car park is full. All event buses will depart from this car park on the Saturday morning to take participants to their individual start lines. Please see below for bus departure times.

There is also parking available at the various start locations should your fan club like to come and see you set off or you would prefer to drive to the start. Note: The car park at Jones Bay is approx. 300meters past the main predator gate, on the left.

 

Event Base

The event base, and finish point for all event options will be located in Fraser Reserve, 57 Broadlands Drive, Omaha Beach (reserve next to the Omaha Surf Club).

This is the best location for spectators to position themselves to see friends and family finish their event.

 

Accommodation

Event Briefing & Start Times

Run and Walk

There will be a participant briefing 10minutes before every start. You MUST attend.

  • Beach Hopper (7.5km) - start time midday at Jones Bay
  • Bay Scrambler (11.5km) – start time 11.30am at Jones Bay
  • Mini Monty Walk (15.5km) – start time 10.30am at Jones Bay
  • Mini Monty Run (15.5km) – start time 11.00am at Jones Bay
  • Mid Monty (25km) – start time 10.00am at Campbells Beach
  • Full Monty (32km) Individual & Teams Relay – start time 9.30am at Campbells Beach

High Tide: 8.18am (2.6m)

Low Tide: 2.23pm (0.4m)

 

Bus Transport

All event buses will depart from the car park next to the Omaha Surf Club (57 Broadlands Drive, Omaha Beach).

If you would like to purchase a bus to the start of your event from Omaha Beach, this can be done while entering your chosen event.

Prizegiving / Post Event

The prizegiving, and post-event festivities will take place from 2.30pm at Fraser Reserve on the Saturday afternoon following the event. Hang around for prizegiving, spot prizes and a beer in the sun. There is safe swimming at Omaha Bay for a refreshing post event dip.

Course Information

Beach Hopper – 7.5km Run / Walk

The Beach Hopper is a course designed for coastal running first-timers, families, kids and those who’re just keen to ‘give it a go!’. This short course event will take participants from the picnic area west, up and over the inland trails with views down to Tawharanui beach and beyond! Then its onto the rocky coastline where you'll be in and out of the water a number of times before reaching the southern end of omaha beach. From there its just a short jaunt along the beautiful Omaha Beach to Fraser Reserve next to the Omaha Surf Club. This course will surely leave a smile on the face of mum, dad and the kids!

Aid Stations: 1

Course Terrain: Sand, rocky coastline with some water interaction.

Water Interaction: There will be some water interaction on the course which makes this event unique, adding an extra element of adventure.

Bay Scrambler – 11.5km Run / Walk

The Bay Scrambler is also a course designed for coastal running first-timers, but those after a few more k’s, and a few more views! The Bay Scramble will take participants on a mixture of native bush trails and grassed tracks through to the stunning golden sand of Anchor Bay.

You’ll then head west, up and over the inland trails with views down to Tawharanui beach and beyond before descending onto the rocky coastline. From here you'll be in and out of the water as you make your way to the southern end of Omaha beach. From there its just a short jaunt along the beautiful Omaha Beach to Fraser Reserve next to the Omaha Surf Club.

This course will give a new-bee a run for their money, but also a grin from ear-to-ear!

Course Terrain: Sand, rocky coastline with small and large boulders, grass, 4WD track and water interaction.

Water Interaction: There will be some water interaction on the course which makes this event unique, adding an extra element of adventure.

Mini Monty – 15.5km Run / Walk

The Mini Monty is the middle course in the Coastal Challenge Series line-up and a course where you’ll ‘see it all’, without a crazy number of kilometres! The mini monty course will take participants from the picnic area in Jones bay, up and over the peninsula through a mixture of native bush trails and grassed tracks which offer awesome panoramic views out over Kawau, Little Barrier and the Omaha Bay.

You’ll then drop down towards the distinctive golden sand of Anchor Bay where you’ll head west up and over the inland trails with views down to Tawharanui beach and beyond before descending onto the rocky coastline. From here you'll be in and out of the water as you make your way to the southern end of omaha beach. From there its just a short jaunt along the beautiful Omaha Beach to Fraser Reserve next to the Omaha Surf Club.

Course Terrain: Sand, small and large boulders, grass, 4WD track and water interaction.

Water Interaction: There will be water interaction on the course and a few small stream crossings up to around knee depth which make this event unique, adding an element of adventure.

Mid Monty – 25km Run

The Mid Monty is one of the big-boys in the Coastal Challenge Series line-up and a course that’ll test the seasoned runner! The Mid Monty course will take participants east along the numerous bays and white sand beaches where you'll be in and out of the water a number of times as you create your own path around the coastline to Jones Bay.

Then it’s up and over the peninsula through a mixture of native bush trails and grassed tracks which offer awesome panoramic views out over Kawau, Little Barrier and the Omaha Bay..

You’ll then drop down towards the distinctive golden sand of Anchor Bay where you’ll head west up and over the inland trails with views down to Tawharanui beach and beyond before descending onto the rocky coastline. From here you'll be in and out of the water as you make your way to the southern end of omaha beach. From there its just a short jaunt along the beautiful Omaha Beach to Fraser Reserve next to the Omaha Surf Club.

Aid Stations: 3

Course Terrain: Sand, small and large boulders, grass, 4WD track and water interaction throughout the course.

Water Interaction: There will be water interaction at various points on the course which makes this event unique, adding an element of adventure.

Full Monty – 32km Run

The Full Monty, the pearl in the Coastal Challenge Series line-up and the course every Coastal Challenge enthusiast aspires to! The Full Monty course will now follow the coastline south to the Sand Spit entrance (with the water on your left), from there you will turn and run back up the coast to Campbell’s Beach and continue on around the Tawharanui coastline.

You'll be in and out of the water for the next 9kms. Once passed the beautiful Jones Bay, you’re up and over the peninsula through a mixture of native bush trails and grassed tracks which offer awesome panoramic views out over Kawau, Little Barrier and the Omaha Bay.

You’ll then drop down towards the distinctive golden sand of Anchor Bay where you’ll head west up and over the inland trails with views down to Tawharanui beach and beyond before descending onto the rocky coastline. From here you'll be in and out of the water as you make your way to the southern end of omaha beach. From there its just a short jaunt along the beautiful Omaha Beach to Fraser Reserve next to the Omaha Surf Club.

This course is for those who’ve got the fitness, like an adventure and don’t mind ‘getting their hands dirty!’.

Course Terrain: Water, sand, flat rock, small and large boulders, grass, 4WD track, streams

Water Interaction: Be ready for it all! There will water interaction at various points on the course making it unique, adding an element of adventure.

Course ratings

The ratings below are the minimum experience level required to participant in each specific event:

  • 7.5km run/walk – Beginner
  • 11.5km run/walk – Beginner
  • 15.5km run/walk – Beginner
  • 25km run – Intermediate
  • 32km run – Intermediate

  • Basic first aid kit

Note: While we will have plenty of aid stations on all course options, we advise (as we would with any off-road event) that you come prepared with your own supplies. We recommend bringing your own hydration-pack complete with liquid (minimum 2 litres), food, thermal top and a basic first aid kit.
